So excited!!!!
The maiden voyage with my new-to-me 2009 Airstream Flying Cloud 23FB was earlier this week! There had been much anticipation and some nervousness leading up to the big day where I picked up my Airstream trailer from the dealer and took it for a quick two night trial just an hour down the road to beautiful Northern California wine country in Napa.
I had two close friends (Jon & Sachi) that are frequent RV travelers and have driven their 5th wheel up from Southern California to Napa a few times. Towing your own trailer makes bringing home all that wine a lot easier according to Jon. They have stayed at Skyline Wilderness Park in Napa a couple times and recommended it as a great “first timer” destination.
Skyline Wilderness Park is located on the outskirts of Napa and features a combination of full hookup (water, electric and sewer) and partial hookup RV (water and electric) sites as well as some pull-through RV camp sites as well. The campground is mostly gravel in the RV area with some shade trees in most of the camp sites.
The campground is dog-friendly and includes a nicely sized off-leash dog park close to the RV campsites, but the surrounding trails thru the Skyline Wilderness do not allow dogs on the trails. Skyline Wilderness Park also features a horse arena and camping area and while I didn’t see anyone camping there with horses, the camp host did say it was regularly used, so I imagine the park would be a great option for horse-lovers that want to relax, camp and ride before or after an afternoon of wine tasting.
The RV park was only about a third full on the Monday evening that I pulled up in my Airstream and was very quiet in the evenings with no loud music or other disturbances. The camp host and front gate attendants were both incredibly helpful and courteous, answering my questions as a newbie Airstream camper with a smile.
